How do you work?
I work in a warm and empathic way exploring your life in the here and now as well as the affects on you from past experiences. My approach is holistic taking into account all of who you are, working with your thoughts, feelings, memories and imagination. The relationship between us is at the centre of the work and building trust and rapport are essential to positive outcomes.
How often will I need to come to counselling?
In general I see clients on a weekly basis on the same day and at the same time for as long as the work continues to be effective and beneficial to you. I will work with you at a pace that suits your individual needs and will regularly review our progress and goals. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
What happens in a counselling session?
The session allows you the time to talk, reflect and explore issues that are causing you pain, anxiety or concern. It is a safe and confidential space where your feelings, emotions and thoughts can be expressed without fear of being judged or criticised. It is an opportunity to gain greater clarity and to discover how to access and implement your own strengths and inner resources. My role is to offer you my insights and to be appropriately challenging when I feel it is beneficial to you.
What is Integrative Counselling?
The Integrative approach allows an integration of different schools of thought and strives to work with the client in a way that reflects their particular needs and goals. The core approach to my work is based on Humanistic and Psychodynamic principles and I also draw on elements from Cognitive Behavioural, Gestalt, TA, Life Coaching and Transpersonal therapies.
What is the difference between Counselling
It is generally a matter of emphasis and the issues the client wishes to work on or presents with. Put simply it could be said that counselling concentrates on working in depth with feelings and emotions and coaching works more practically, focusing on goals and achievements.
How many sessions?
Initially I meet clients for an assessment session and if we both agree to work together then I offer a further 5 sessions. After the initial 6 sessions, there is a discussion to review the progress of the work and to decide if we wish to continue onto open ended, long-term work.
Do you have a cancellation charge for missed sessions?
Yes, I require at least 24 hours notice for cancelled or re-scheduled sessions otherwise you will have to pay the full fee for the missed session.
Clients can end sessions at any time. However, clients attend sessions on the basis that they agree to give advance notice of leaving therapy and to meet for some final closing sessions to address any unresolved issues and to honour the relationship and the work we have done together.
