Why counselling?
Counselling is often a difficult and brave step towards taking control of your life, enabling you to explore difficult issues that have arisen in the here and now or have been causing you anxiety and concern over a longer period of time.
Counselling is not about giving advice or offering quick fixes but can provide a fresh perspective on areas of your life that you feel trapped or stuck in. It can also help to change patterns of unhelpful behaviour, to know yourself in a deeper way, challenge negativity and confusion and escape from cycles of disappointment . A counselling experience should lead to a better ability to reconnect to your inner resources and resilience and to find ways to deal with issues even if they cannot always be fully resolved.
My approach
Overall my aim is to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where your concerns and anxieties can be explored in a sensitive, thoughtful and imaginative way. I will take the time to properly assess what is causing you to feel stressed, anxious or unhappy and together look at what you may need in order to get the most out of the process.
I work in a warm and empathic way working with you to address present day concerns as well as the affects on you from past experiences. My approach is holistic taking into account all of who you are your thoughts, feelings, memories and imagination. The relationship between us is at the centre of the work and building trust and rapport are essential to positive outcomes.
What is Integrative Counselling?
The Integrative approach allows an integration of different schools of thought and strives to work with the client in a way that reflects their particular needs and goals. The core approach to my work is based on Humanistic and Psychodynamic principles and I also draw on elements from Cognitive Behavioural, Gestalt, TA, Life Coaching and Transpersonal therapies.
